The Passion Play at Oberammergau

Certainly one of the highlights of the whole trip will be our next stop at the Passion Play at Oberammergau. Its first performance can be traced back to 1633 when the Black Plague swept through Europe. The people of Oberammergau took a solemn oath: if God spared them, they would present a day-long play depicting the last week in the life of Christ. To this day they have kept their promise and every 10 years the citizens of Oberammergau open their homes to guests and tours like ours and perform their Passion Play with the same love and devotion that have shown for over 370 years. Today the play takes place in an open-air stage with a beautiful backdrop of towering Alps and has seating for 4700 people.
